Movie Review – Airlift

Star cast: Akshay Kumar, Nimrat Kaur, Purab Kohli, Prakash Belawadi.

Counting on the real incident which is recorded in Guinness Book of World Records as the largest civic evacuation of all time. Airlift is a sincere effort to celebrate an insanely daunting task.

In 1990, during the first Gulf war, over 170000 Indians were strangled in Kuwait, when it was attacked by Iraq. Akshay Kumar plays Ranjeet Katyal, a profit hungry businessman, though Indian but Arabic to the core. He loves listening to Arabic music rather than Indian songs. But his patriotic side awakens when his driver is killed in front of his eyes. He reaches his office, arranges for money and bribes the chief of Iraq army to let him leave the country with his family and his driver’s family.

But when he gets to know that his office has become a shelter home for more n more Indians, he takes charge of the situation.Through a tide of herculean situation he manages to take 170000 Indians back to India. He has played a true amalgamation of Mr. Matthews and Mr. Verdi who masterminded the dramatic rescue operation.

Nimrat Kaur essays the role of a disgruntled wife who comes closer to her husband more-than-ever-before in the moment of crises. Nimrat is fabulous in the confrontation sequence when she shuts up an irritating refugee played by Prakash Belawadi. Purab Kohli as Ibrahim Durrani plays an important role in evacuation. Kumud Mishra as the Babu in External Affairs Ministry brings in a delightful relief.

On the whole, Airlift is a compelling movie, fills you with a sense of pride and honour for your country and your fellow Indians. Akshay giving an award winning performance is not to be missed at all.
