Movie Review – Calendar Girls

Another of Madhur Bhandharkar’s debacle. Its the story of 5 damsels who are chosen to be a part of the coveted calendar of the glamour world sponsored by a real life magnate(Suhel Seth) and photographer ( Rohit Roy).

The shoot that happens, shows every bit of their skin, the camera gives over , under, behind the calendar girls.

The girls come in from different backgrounds which is quite calculable. Mayuri( Ruhi) from Rohtak, Paroma( Satarupa) a Bengali bombshell, Goan lass Sharon( Kyra), Lahoran babe Nazneen (Avani) and Nandita ( Akansha) from the upper class family of CEO’s in Hyderabad.

All the five struggle their way through the year. One gets pushed into VIP escort service, another into a honey trap of match fixing. Sharon, who refuses to sleep her way to the top, leaves the fashion world and joins media. Nandita becomes the trophy wife of a tycoon, ceases her career only to be acquainted that his husband is taking a bed and breakfast service from an escort on the pretext of being stressed as justified by his family.

The only one for whom the viewer feels a little pleasant is Mayuri ‘the selfie queen’ from Rohtak whose child-like innocence brings a little smile on your face. It is only she that looks in control of the situation.

The  standards of Madhur Bhandharkar are getting low. The graph is diminishing. The performances are just average and the story line is quite predictable. Unlike the performance of Tabu, her gaze in Chandani Bar sent shivers down the spine, the explicit performances of Priyanka and Kangana in Fashion is all lost now.

Madhur will lose all his fans if he continues to make such movies. You can totally give it a miss.
