Recently I got a chance to Visit the newly opened restaurant at The Suryaa Hotel – “Ssence – A Culinary Showcase“. If you don’t know already, The Suryaa Hotel is A 5 star deluxe hotel located in the heart of the commercial business district of South Delhi, in New Friends Colony. Apart from Ssence, The Suryaa Hotel has Atrium Lounge and Sampan.
I found the decor of Ssence quite simple yet elegant. Its quite spacious and sitting areas are dimly lit. Ssence also offers buffet service apart from A La Carte. I was pleasantly surprised to see Digital Menus. One can browse through the menu and can place order through that.
I met Chef Sanjay Behl, Director F&B. He took us through the menu and I decided to try all his recommendations. I liked how he briefly explained all the dishes that were served to us (Me and Husband). We started with Castel, Sauvignon Blanc Wine. I somehow don’t like liquor much so shifted to Apple Juice Mojito, juice was freshly squeezed.
He started with Hot Appetizers – Mushroom Croquettes served with Fig Chutney & Feta Cigar Rolls with Aioli & Horiatiki Salad . I am not very fond of mushrooms, but let me tell you those Mushroom Croquettes were delicious, they were crisp from outside and soft inside. Those Feta Cigar Rolls were crispy and tasted amazing with Fig Chutney. Salad tasted really fresh.
Next we were served a Kebab Platter, First Non-Veg and later Veg. Each platter had Malai Tikka, Galouti Kebab & Kalami Kebab with Mint and sweet chutney.
Veg Kebab were Sabz Galouti Kebab & Paneer Tikka. Let me tell you that Sabz Galouti Kebab overshadowed its Non-Veg version. It was a knock out dish that melts in your mouth, with adequate spices.
Next was Wild Mushroom Mille Feuille. The dish tasted very creamy and red cabbage at the bottom was packed with flavours. The pastry was very crispy and dish had a balance of all the flavours. For me “it was a winner”
We moved on to main course that comprises of Soup, Salad and main course. We decided to skip soup since were already feeling full. Chef Sanjay Behl recommended House Salad that is Cesar Salad served with a twist. I liked it a lot, dressing and seasoning was perfect
I did not use flash in all the pictures but each dish looked like a masterpiece. We moved on to main course and were served one veg (Dala Makhani, Mix Veg, Veg Biryani, Naan, Raita) and one non-veg platter (Nalli Ka saalan, Lamb Biryani, Daal Tadka, Naan & Raita)
Oh That Lamb Biryani stole my heart. Fragrant Rice with right amount of spices. Saalan tasted good too. Can you see how colorful my platter looks
No dinner is ever complete without a dessert. On chef’s recommendation we tried Varhlona Chocolate Mousse. I am not much of a chocolate lover but this one was outstanding. It was prepared with 56% dark chocolate and was served with milk chocolate mousse and Bailey Sorbet. All the three components on the platter went along very well however being a non-chocolate person I found Varhlona Chocolate Mousse bit bitter.
Overall My Experience at Ssence was amazing. I loved how all the classic dishes were prepared and served with a twist, without ruining their original taste. I liked all the dishes that were served to me. Ssence is a good choice whether you want to spend quality time with family, friends. Place is sophisticated and thus could be an excellent choice for business meetings. You can try and experiment with food from A La Carte or try comfort food from their Buffets.
