Had you asked me my food preferences two years back, I would have said “North Indian” without thinking twice. However with the time I started experimenting with food , tried different cuisines and realized how much flavours were missing from my life. One thing I surely love about asian cuisine is the freshness of flavours and how you can enhance them with various relishes/ sauces.
Recently I got a chance to taste mouth watering dishes at Chi Asian Cookhouse which is situated at the most bustling part of Delhi i.e. Janpath.
Restaurant has a nice spacious yet contemporary decor. I really liked the bar area and how summery & cheerful the color theme was. Its an indoors restaurant however there is also an option of sitting in the open area. There is a mix of couches and wooden chairs/ seating.
Lunch started with piping hot bowl of heart warming Chiang Mai Glass Noodles Soup (Chicken). Soup was light and delicious, and of course appetizing. There were chunks of vegetables, chicken & glass noodles.
Next was Ho Chi Minh Chicken Satay, quite spicy and packed with flavours. I loved how the chicken was juicy and flavourful.
Goi Cuan Chay – Veg Rice paper roll, tasted really fresh and delicious.
Banana Leaf with Sticky Rice & Minced Chicken
This was one of my favorite dishes served at Chi. Sticky rice had a creamy texture and chicken mince was really flavourful ! Loved how light and melt-in-your-mouth texture it had.
I am not a huge Tofu fan, however the punch from black bean sauce added much needed punch to the dish, tofu was as soft as cream, and melted in the mouth.
Spicy & Coriander Dim Sums
I loved loved love the dim sums there – these were Spicy & Coriander Dim sums. Needless to say how delicious yet fresh coriander dim sums were. Spicy were not that spicy and really soft & juicy.
Sui Mui Dim Sums
Open dim sums were sui mui and other were the regular ones. Both of these were super delicious !
In the main course we had –
Mild flavoured chicken shreds cooked with shitake mushrooms & snow peas. Chicken was super creamy and delightful.
Jasmine Rice with burnt garlic & Coriander & Musaman Curry
Musaman Curry had lamb cooked in thai curry, hands down my favorite dish out of everything we tasted. Rice didn’t have over powering taste of garlic and the curry was lip smacking and so flavourful ! It had right balance of spices and I can go back to the restaurant just to eat it again. Lamb shred was soft & juicy.
Japchae – Gluten Free Korean wok tossed Cellophane noodles cooked with shitake mushrooms & fresh vegetables. It was quite spicy yet delicious.
In dessert we had Coconut Pancake with Vanilla ice – cream – Coconut pancake was filled with sugar & coconut shred, it was crunchy from inside and soft from outside, Vanilla ice cream balanced the sugar in the dish and made it a delight. It was fresh & finger licking good !
We also had mocktails – Bejing Martini , Thai Caipiroska & Budhha’s Palm. My favorite was Budhha’s Palm
Overall If you love Asian food, then a visit to Chi Asian Cookhouse is a must. I am sure you will love the ambience, food and service.
